About Heather
Hello! I'm Heather Shahan, teacher by day and author by night. I grew up in rural Florida, but I’ve lived in Texas for over a decade. I spent my childhood at the whims of my imagination, daydreaming and creating stories about elves, princesses, pirates, and fairies. I fell in love with reading in middle school and devoured books week after week. Now I write them.
For a long time, my writing was relegated to summers, and I felt that I couldn't write during the school year. In July 2023, I decided that I wouldn't push my writing aside yet again. Determined, I began to find little bits of time as many days as I could: after work, while my son was at practice, and before bed. I quickly learned that little bits add up and slow but steady wins the race. Averaging about 250 words a day during the school year and 1,000 during the summer, I manage about 150,000 a year.
I live in Texas with my husband Jeremy, son Isaac, and pup Oakley. When not teaching or writing, I can usually be found snuggling my family, reading, or slaying dragons on World of Warcraft.
You can find me on Goodreads, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky.
In lieu of a newsletter, I am active on my author discord. It is a small community, and you're welcome to join!

All Dri is told is that her answers lie in Arlyss, an isolated kingdom that her ancestors were exiled from centuries before. Along her journey, she meets a diverse cast of characters who somehow find their way past her hardened defenses and into her heart. Though her sight allows her to see many of the struggles the world offers, her new friends show her that the best healing comes when we open ourselves up to the good… even when our best efforts don’t always measure up.

Still a captive in Neart, Estrella uncovers the king’s dangerous plot. Content to massacre an entire land to get what he wants, the king aims to find Dri and claim the dragonkeeper for himself. Estrella is determined to stop him, even if it means forming an alliance with his daughter Phin.
As the king prepares his army to invade, both Dri and Estrella must set out across Cretala once more on a quest to forge new connections. But time is running out, and with the fates of all Scriossians in their hands, it feels like nothing they do will be enough.
